Though there are many components in a bike, the braking system consisting of brakes, brake pads are very important in the point of view of a safety. Disc brake assemblies are also heavier than the rim brakes. Hence the disc brakes are costlier than the rim brakes.

The latest development in the field of road bike brakes is Hydraulic brake. This acts in the principle of pushing the hydraulic fluid down a hose towards the bike brakes.
