Different Kinds Of Food Storage

There are many different ways of storing food-both traditional and modern, scientific ones.
Food Storage is an important part of some of the ways in which a state or a nation can prepare itself to handle different kinds of emergencies.
Food scarcity induced by famine brought about by drought conditions, destruction of crops before harvest because of floods, cyclones, tsunamis etc causes distress to millions of those affected. Here’s where long-sightedness in the area of food storage helps.
Food that the Government has preserved and stored in times of surplus and also with a view to use it in times of emergency, proves to be a boon and Godsend in such times.
There are various means by which the agencies and departments concerned store food in large amounts. These include Dehydration or drying processes, super speed water pressure methods also known as cold pasteurization, osmotic inhibition where different kinds of syrups and liquids are used to inactivate harmful bacterial action that cause food to rot, freeze-drying and spray-drying foods, burying food under the ground under certain controlled conditions, using friendly bacteria to keep pathogenic organisms attacks under control, applying high pressure on food items in vessels under proper supervision and so many other ways.
